How to Ship a Car
If you are moving to another state, or another country and do not want to leave your car behind or sell it, your only choice is to ship it to where you now are. Even if you are just driving across country, your job may be so hectic that you just do not have the time to drive it yourself where you are moving to. If you are new at shipping a car, there are certain steps that you need to take in order to get this done.
You first need to plan out the date for shipping your gar. If you are going to ship your car across the country it is going to take longer than if you drove it yourself. The reason is that the company you chose may other cars to deliver along the way.
Once you have the date when you are going to ship your car, the next thing is to find the right car shipping companies. You can look in your local telephone book or check online to find a shipper. There are online sites that will help you find the right shipper and also show you customer’s comments on how their experience with the shipper was both pros and cons. Make sure that you choose a company that has a good long reputation.
Chose three or tour car shipping companies and contact them, asking them about their availability for the date you need them and their rates. Ask about their insurance to cover the cars they ship and make sure that you read the insurance document and check about a deductible if there is an accident.
The day of shipping or the day before make sure that you wash your car thoroughly so you can identify all the scratches and dents and make a note of all of them and where they are so you will know if anything happened to your car during shipping. Make sure that your car alarm is turned off and anything extra like a CD player is taken out of the car.
On the day of the shipping, make sure that you are there so you can sign the final documents and make sure that the car is left in good hands. Read all the paperwork before signing it to make sure that it is correct.
When your car is delivered make sure that you are there to pick it up and check it over to make sure it is not damaged.
